A new structural model integrated with biostratigraphic reinterpretation forms basis for new play concepts, where viable oil plays for five intervals are documented in detail.

The new Petroleum System Analysis is significantly different than the common understanding in the exploration community, which is based on a new understanding of the maximum burial and uplift history in the Western Barents Sea. This new understanding will also be relevant elsewhere in the Barents Sea, where strata above Early Cretaceous is mostly absent.

The work includes an updated stratigraphy for the Western Barents Sea and Hammerfest Basin, based on the biostratigraphic re-evaluation of 16 wells in the region.
